NB504 - Setting Wireless Security

By default, this Wireless Modem/Router does not have Wireless Security enabled.
You can enable this by following the below steps:

  1. Open your Web Browser (such as Internet Explorer), and enter the following numbers into the Address Bar:
    192.168.1.1
If asked to login, the default username and password is "admin" and "admin" without the quotes.
  2. Click on Wireless on the left.
  3. Click on Wireless Settings on the left.
  4. TICK the "Enable Wireless Security" box.
  5. Select the type of Wireless Security you want from the "Security Type" drop-down box.
WEP is the basic Wireless Security choice, and will work with most, if not all wireless devices.
WPA-PSK is an advanced Wireless Security choice, and is more secure than WEP. However, some old wireless devices may not support WPA-PSK.
If you are unsure of which type of security to choose, you can choose WEP, and run through this guide again later if you want to try WPA-PSK.
  6. After choosing your type, follow these steps for configuring your Wireless Security:

WEP

WPA-PSK

Change the following options:

  • Security Option: Open System
  • WEP Key Format: Hexadecimal
  • Key Type (on Key 1): 64bit

  • WEP KEY (on Key 1): Enter your security key here. Your key must be 10 digits in length and can only contain the letters A-F, and the numbers 0-9. For Example: A1B2C3D4E5

Change the following options:

  • Security Option: WPA-PSK
  • Encryption: TKIP
  • PSK Passphrase: Enter your security key here. Your key can contain any characters, and needs to be between 8 and 63 characters in length.
    For Example: ah$hjt33q
  • Group Key Update Period: 3600

Make a note of the security key that you have entered. After following the above steps for your chosen Wireless Security type, press the Save button, then press OK.

The modem will now save the new Wireless Settings, and your wireless connection from your computer may be disconnected.
